Laila says….
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I desperately wanted to have a home birth after a previous caesarean but several risk factors including gestational diabetes meant that I felt anxious and frustrated at the uphill battle I was facing in trying to have an “out of guidance” birth under NHS care. Thankfully Rene didn’t see me as set of risk factors on a piece of paper; she saw me as a woman and a mother. Rene guided and supported me to achieve my dream while ensuring that everything was done safely. Although she had less experience in dealing with gestational diabetes at a home birth, Rene was positive, open-minded and learned a lot about managing the condition in pregnancy and labour. Nothing daunted or fazed her. She believed in and empowered me, and gave me the confidence to believe in myself. We built an amazing bond antenatally and I trusted her implicitly during labour where she was everything I’d hoped she would be:  supportive, reassuring, constructive, kind but also discrete and gave us plenty of space. Postnatally when my little boy experienced significant weight loss, Rene remained unflappable and we worked together to get my baby’s growth back on track. My husband and I were so sad to say goodbye to her at the end of our postnatal care. We miss Rene and still talk about her all the time. Not only is she a superb midwife, but Rene is also a wonderful caring, passionate and funny person. She will always hold a special place in our hearts and our enduring gratitude for making our dreams come true. We could not recommend her highly enough.”
